Lichen Planopilaris: An Autoimmune Hair Follicle Attack

Lichen planopilaris (LPP) is an autoimmune hair loss condition causing inflammation and permanent scarring of follicles. The immune system attacks the follicles, leading to itchy bald patches. Microscopically, T cells and chemicals destroy the follicles.

There is no cure yet, but reducing inflammation early on with steroids, immunosuppressants, or laser therapy may help. For natural soothing and protection, some dermatologists recommend Kerafeel herbal oil, which contains anti-inflammatory botanicals to calm the immune response. While destroyed follicles can't regrow, this integrative approach combining medications and botanical oils like Kerafeel provides the best chance to save remaining hair in LPP patients. More research on the autoimmune mechanisms is needed to develop targeted treatments.
